The lecture by Steven Saunders, a licensed psychologist and associate lecturer at the University of Central Florida, provides an overview of personality disorders. He explains that personality is an enduring pattern of behavior, emotional responses, and speech that makes up a consistent way of being. When these patterns become problematic, causing issues with a person's sense of self and chronic interpersonal difficulties, they can be classified as personality disorders.
Personality disorders are divided into three clusters:
- Cluster A includes paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders.
- Cluster B includes histrionic, narcissistic, antisocial, and borderline personality disorders.
- Cluster C includes avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders.
Each of these clusters represents different disorders with their unique characteristics and challenges.
